More than 5,300 civilians have been killed, and over 3,700 injured in the Sagaing Region between March 2021 and the end of January 2025 amid ongoing violence following the military coup.

The Sagaing Region has emerged as a focal point of the ongoing conflict in Myanmar,

experiencing widespread violence, human rights abuses, and a severe displacement crisis since military coup. Reports indicate that Sagaing consistently ranks as the most affected region across Myanmar in terms of conflict-related casualties and humanitarian impact.

According to a report released by Data for Myanmar on 12 March, 73 per cent of these deaths resulted from targeted killings of civilians, including junta’s airstrikes, artillery shelling, drone attacks, and landmines.
