Ministry of Human Rights condemns junta airstrikes causing civilian deaths, including child

On 17 March, the Ministry of Human Rights of the National Unity Government (NUG) released a statement condemning the Myanmar military junta’s airstrikes on public spaces and the resultant deaths of civilians, including children. The Ministry called for international action against these violations of humanitarian law.


The statement is as follows.


On March 16, 2025, at 5:30 PM, the military junta conducted an aerial attack on Sein Yadana Buddhist Monastery in Nawnghkio, North Shan State. The attack resulted in the deaths of 2 monk, 5 novices under 18 years of age, 1 male civilians, and 2 female civilians, totalling 10 fatalities, with numerous others sustaining injuries.
