Earthquake at the epicentre in Myanmar kills at least 21

Information is now coming in that the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit near Sagaing, Myanmar, on 28 March, at 12:50 pm, led to significant destruction and loss of life in the area.


Local residents and aid organizations report at least 21 fatalities, alongside extensive damage to various religious structures in areas such as Taungoo in Bago region and Pyawbwe in Mandalay.


Tragically, the earthquake resulted in the collapse of the Weiluwun Monastery in Taungoo, which served as a shelter for displaced individuals. Reports indicate that five of approximately 20 children trapped inside have died, with rescue efforts still underway for the injured.
